Case Studies

Here are some of our case studies that showcase some of our completed projects.

Case Study 1 – Woodpecker Hill: Kitchen, Cool Room & Aircon

The new Woodpecker Hill restaurant in Parnell required full mechanical services to help deliver a premium dining experience and uncluttered visual experience so standalone under-ceiling heat-pumps were replaced with a more elegant, circular ducted system.

Set Point Technology designed, installed and commissioned a complete solution that met both the client brief and stringent Council requirements. Stringent fire and smoke regulations meant that special components were also added to the bespoke solution.

The Set Point team worked with the respective design, construction and electrical teams to install; a ducted, roof-top Air Handling Unit, independent bathroom ducted-aircon, supply and exhaust ducts for two kitchen hoods, an independent and heated fresh-air supply unit (for cool Winter evenings) and two, independent cool rooms.

Case Study 2 – Nomad Bar & Grill: Kitchen & Aircon

The new Nomad restaurant in Pt Chevalier required full mechanical services to help deliver a premium dining experience within the two, key dining areas being the loft area and ground level seating.

Set Point Technology designed, installed and commissioned a complete solution that met the client brief, the construction companies objectives and Council requirements.

The Set Point team worked with the respective design, construction and electrical teams to install; three, under ceiling heat-pumps, supply and exhaust ducts through the floor of the loft area and a heated fresh-air supply unit (for cool Winter evenings) and two, independent cool rooms.

Case Study 3 – City Apartment Ducted

This relatively new Viaduct apartment required two, new ducted aircon units to deliver comfort and independent control to the owners and their family across an expansive floor area.

Set Point Technology was invited to submit a more functional and energy-efficient design using the existing grills and outlets with returns hidden behind the bulkhead in the new LED lit ceilings.

Two substantial ceiling and roof units were installed and wired with assistance from the builders who were able to lift the roof for our install teams. The system was also upgraded to Daikin’s new Wi-Fi operating system so that the owners can ‘dry-out’ their living or bedroom spaces on damp Auckland Winter mornings using their i-phones and i-pads and control the air from anywhere inside the apartment or the other side of the world.

Case Study 4 – Bodhi Beauty Clinic Hi-Wall

The Bodhi Tree in Auckland’s Epsom district wanted to improve their clients’ experience and well-being with instant control of the massage room temperatures. A number of independent, Mitsubishi Hi-wall units were installed on the basis of performance and quietness. The project was completed within 48 hours and the owners were delighted with the outcome for both their clients and therapists.

Case Study 5 – Industrial Office Hi-Wall

Set Point Technology was invited to provide a substantial aircon solution for a large office space being refurbished in Penrose. The large Panasonic system was piped in such a way as to deliver comfort inside and hide the outdoor compressor so it wouldn’t look unsightly from the front of the building.

Case Study 6 – City Works Depot

The Cityworks Depot in Auckland’s CBD has a centralised restroom and toilet area that is used by a wide range of people including business, cafe and restaurant customers.

Set Point Technology was invited to submit a design and build a more efficient and effective system of removing air and moisture from the area to replace individual 100mm exhaust fans in the individual toilet stalls that weren’t working to remove odours and draw in fresh air.

To minimise disruption and inconvenience, the Set Point team worked on a weekend to install a new, central-ducted system with a single roof-top fan. On each spigot or duct dampers are fitted vent to adjust and balance air-flows across the entire system. For energy and power efficiency, electronic sensors control the single fan that only runs when someone enters the toilets. The round air-intake vents are easy for cleaners to wipe down so that the system looks pristine from the inside and outside.

Case Study 7 – Residential Ducted System

This particular residential site has been undergoing remedial work and the client wanted to provision air con throughout all rooms and across both levels of this expansive house.

Set Point Technology was invited to design and build a system that would provide year-round comfort to the owners. It was also important that we could work around the respective trade and subcontract teams involved in this 3 month project.

The final solution combined both a ducted system and standalone hi-wall units around the perimeter rooms where it was not possible to provision ducts.

The architects designed a special roof-truss to accommodate the ceiling unit (pictured above) and Set Point used rigid duct in the walls to improve airflows and reduce air-resistance for the supply air lines between the ground and first level. Spiral ducting is quick and fast to install but rigid duct is generally far superior for performance, noise mitigation and efficiency.

The concealed ducting is now connecting multiple rooms on both levels of this house. This is also combined with the hi-wall, single-split units in rooms where the ducted solution couldn’t reach.

The client now has an extremely energy-efficient system that delivers year-round comfort with precise temperature control throughout the entire house.

Case Study 8 – Residential Hi-wall

This brand new house required a substantial hi-wall heat pump to deliver comfort to the family in this large living room. It is a single-split (only one indoor unit versus multiple indoor units connected to one outdoor compressor) and reverse cycle system that will cool in Summer, heat in Winter or in FAN ONLY mode just move air around so all the doors and windows can remain open.

To future-proof this house, Set Point was engaged to accurately measure the room and recommend a brand and system that would deliver great value for money. Within three days of the client making a final decision, the Set Point team had installed a large 8.1 kW Toshiba Heat Pump shown in the pictures above.

The installation exceeded the client’s expectations and installation standards set out by EECA & Auckland Council “Good Practice Guide for Heat Pump installation” which is available from EECA free of charge. If, for example, the pipe work isn’t fully vacuumed out with the correct equipment the heat pump won’t work as efficiently.

You can rely on us for professional installations that will ensure your Heat Pump works to maximum efficiency for many years to come.
